A television on the wall is only as safe as what is behind the plaster. I find the studs or the masonry, use fixings rated for the weight, and leave the cables tidy rather than hanging.
Usually yes, but it depends what is behind it. If there are studs in the right place the bracket goes into timber and it is solid. If not, heavy-duty plasterboard anchors can work for lighter sets. For a large TV on bare plasterboard with nothing behind it, I will tell you honestly if I do not think it is safe.
Many older properties around Brighton are built with bungaroosh, a soft rubble and lime wall that does not hold fixings reliably. I will always use the best fixing for what is actually there, but if the wall is not sound enough to take the weight I will say so on the day rather than hang something that might come down.
Where the wall allows, yes. Trunking is the quick and reliable option and can be painted to match. Chasing cables into the wall is possible in some builds but is a bigger job.
