Floating shelves, alcove shelving, mirrors, artwork, curtain poles and blinds. Straightforward jobs that go wrong when the fixing does not match the wall.
It depends entirely on the wall and the bracket, not the shelf. Into timber studs or solid masonry, a decent floating shelf will take books and more. Into bare plasterboard the honest answer is ornaments only. I will tell you which you have before fitting.
Yes, with a caveat. A lot of older Brighton housing is bungaroosh, a soft rubble wall that does not grip fixings the way brick does. I use the best fixing available for what is behind the plaster, and most of the time it is fine. Occasionally a wall simply is not sound enough, and I will tell you that rather than fit something that will pull out.
If I have had to move or remove old fixings, yes. Holes get filled and sanded flush ready for paint.
